Nestled on the scenic coast of the Scottish Highlands lies the charming town of Dornoch, a hidden gem that captures the hearts of tourists and golfers alike. Home to the world-renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Club, this town boasts a rich history dating back to the 13th century. It’s stunning beaches and lush greenery makes it the perfect destination for anyone seeking a tranquil escape. For golf enthusiasts, Royal Dornoch Golf Club is the crown jewel of Dornoch. From its challenging and picturesque courses, Royal Dornoch ranks among the top 20 golf courses in the world. After a trip to Royal Dornoch this fall, I had the pleasure of capturing one of the club’s iconic holes in a golden sunrise. The “Sunrise at Royal Dornoch” is a painting that features a unique view of this iconic course.
Once back in the studio, I started a 36″ x 48″ golf painting of an uncommon view from the North Sea featuring the 7th through the 10th hole with a sketch and imprimatura. Imprimatura is a thin, transparent layer of color that is applied to a painting’s ground before the final painting is applied.
Next, the color blocks come in to set the tone and color.
Then, I added details from the sky to the foreground.
