FRAMING CHOICES MADE EASY

When it comes to framing your artwork, there are a few things to consider in order to make the best decision for your piece. Follow this simple guide to help you make the right choices for your artwork:

Framing choices can make such a difference. Look how these two frames create such a different finished presentation of "Morning Shadows of the Old Course: The Sketch".

STEP 1: DETERMINE THE TYPE OF ARTWORK YOU HAVE

Determine the type of artwork you have. The type of artwork you have will determine the framing options available to you.

-If you have a canvas print, you can have it stretched by a framers to be gallery wrapped.  Gallery wrapped originals and prints can be hung as is or framed with a floating frame.

-Paper and canvas prints will need to be matted and framed.

STEP 2: CHOOSE A FRAME STYLE

Decide on the style of frame that will best suit your artwork. If you have a modern piece, a sleek and simple floating frame might be the best option. For a more traditional look, a gold or chunky frame may be more appropriate.

STEP 3: DECIDE ON MATTING

If you have a paper or canvas print, you will need to choose whether or not to mat your artwork. Matting provides a border around your artwork and can enhance the overall look. If you choose to mat your artwork, decide on the color and thickness of the matting.

STEP 4: CHOOSE GLASS OR NO GLASS

For paper prints, you will need to decide whether or not to add glass to your frame. Glass can protect your artwork from dust and damage, but it can also create glare and reflections. You can ask your framer for a glare free glass or acrylic covering.  For canvas prints, glass is not necessary.

STEP 5: DIY or PROFRESSIONAL FRAMING

Step 5: DIY or professional framing Some frames can be easily assembled at home, while others require a professional framer. Decide which option is best for your artwork and your skill level. If you have a valuable or delicate piece, it’s best to seek the help of a professional framer.  Professional framers can also tie in your home’s aesthetic and color palette into your frame to create a piece that blends seamlessly with your home.

By following these simple steps, you can make informed decisions about how to frame your artwork. Whether you choose to frame your artwork yourself or seek the help of a professional, a well-framed piece can enhance the overall look and value of your artwork.
