Live Painting at Sweetens Cove: The Inaugural Gentleman Jack x Manors Golf Event
I've painted golf courses for years. I've painted live events from tournaments to weddings. I've even painted whiskey bottles on canvas.
But I've never painted golf courses onto actual whiskey bottles, live, at an event.
And I'm officially obsessed.

Last week I had the honor of live painting at the inaugural Manors Golf x Gentleman Jack tournament at Sweetens Cove Golf Club. It was the first-ever collaboration between Manors and Gentleman Jack, and I was brought on to create two pieces of custom art for the day.
The event poster
For the poster that's being mailed to every player this week, I painted the 4th hole at Sweetens Cove in my studio over a few weeks. Oil on canvas, 18x24 inches. That original painting was gifted to the winner of one of the day's tournaments, and prints of that same image are being turned into the official event poster.

The live whiskey bottle painting
This is where things get fun. When I arrived at Sweetens, we set up my painting table right at the 1st tee, so every group teeing off could watch the bottles come to life over the course of the day. Four custom Gentleman Jack bottles, each one painted with a Sweetens Cove scene. Acrylic on glass.

We also displayed the original 4th hole painting on the table, which drew reactions from every golfer who walked up. Getting to watch a painting come together while waiting to tee off isn't something you see every day, and the reactions from the players made the whole thing feel like performance art.
At the end of the day, the four finished bottles went to the winning team of the tournament. I'm so used to painting large (my typical commission is 30x40 inches and up), so working at bottle-scale was a fun, precise challenge. Each one is the only one of its kind, which is exactly the kind of commission I love.

Why this kind of event works
A live painting at a golf tournament does two things at once. It becomes entertainment during the day, and it creates a physical, one-of-a-kind trophy that outlasts the event itself. Manors Golf and Gentleman Jack are both brands that care deeply about craft, so adding handmade art to a day built around both of them felt like a natural fit.
