No. 4 & 5 at Troubadour Golf and Field
If you have walked the front nine at Troubadour Golf and Field Club you know the stretch from the fourth tee to the fifth green is something special. The elevation changes give you a vantage point that most courses cannot offer. You can stand on the fourth tee and see the entire composition laid out in front of you with the Tennessee hills rolling off into the distance.
This commission was painted over several months in the studio from reference photography taken on location at Troubadour in College Grove, Tennessee. The square format was intentional to give equal weight to both holes in the composition.
Aimee Smith is an oil painter specializing in golf course landscapes. Her work has been featured in Golf Digest and she holds official licensing agreements with the world's most prestigious courses including St Andrews Links, Royal Dornoch, Pebble Beach, and Valderrama.
Troubadour Golf & Field Club is a Discovery Land Company community located 30 miles south of Nashville in College Grove, Tennessee. The championship 18 hole course was designed by Tom Fazio and rides through the central Tennessee foothills with elevated tees, creek crossings, and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The club sits on over 900 acres and is consistently ranked among the top courses in Tennessee.
Painting Troubadour's Front Nine from Above
Every golfer who has played Troubadour Golf and Field remembers the front nine. Tom Fazio routed these holes through some of the best terrain in middle Tennessee. The fourth and fifth sit in a stretch where the elevation works in your favor and you get to see the full scope of what this course really is.
The collector who commissioned this piece lives in the Troubadour community and sees these holes from his backyard. He wanted something that captured that exact perspective, the way the fairways flow between the tree lines and the comfort station anchors the scene behind the fifth green. We worked from aerial and ground level reference photos to get the composition right.
The 42 by 42 inch square canvas was a deliberate choice. It gave both holes equal presence without one dominating the other. The result is a painting that feels like standing on the fourth tee on a perfect Tennessee afternoon, looking out at two holes that remind you why you love this game.
This original Troubadour Golf and Field painting is now in a private collection. If you are interested in commissioning a painting of your favorite hole at Troubadour or any other course, Aimee welcomes inquiries at hello@aimeesmithstudios.com.
