Portmarnock Golf Club sits on a narrow peninsula just north of Dublin where the Irish Sea wraps around three sides of the course. It is one of the great links courses in the world and the 12th hole is among its finest. The fairway runs along the coast with the sea visible on both sides and the wind dictating every shot.
This Portmarnock Golf Club painting was commissioned by a private collector and captures the 12th hole in the dramatic coastal light that defines links golf in Ireland. The composition looks down the hole with the green framed by the dunes and the sky stretching wide overhead.
Portmarnock's history and future provide one of the most alluring stories in Irish golf. Founded in 1894, the club has hosted the Irish Open, the Walker Cup, and the Canada Cup, and its championship links remains a bucket list destination for golfers worldwide.

This painting is officially licensed by Portmarnock Golf Club. Aimee travelled to the course to capture reference photography on location, walking the links and studying the light at different times of day before settling on the composition for the 12th hole.
The 24 by 30 inch canvas was painted in oil in the studio over several weeks. The palette captures the greens and golds of the Irish links land set against the grey-blue tones of the Irish Sea and the ever-changing sky that defines Portmarnock.
